7 Statements Accountable People Make

BRAND NEW! QBQ! Facebook Discussion Group!

accountability, accountable, conversations

Our son and his wife moved into a new home. For three months, they tolerated high-energy neighbor dogs left outside all day that never stopped barking.

Never.

I know because I’ve visited there many times. The incessant noise was a real problem. Yet when they talked to the owner, the woman asserted —

“Our dogs bark because the people who lived in your house were mean to them. At least they don’t bite.”

Wow. ??

Two human traps are justification and rationalization — and each is the antithesis of Personal Accountability. When we justify and rationalize, we sound like this:

“Yes, I did say that, but did you hear what she said first?”

“I’m not perfect, but at least I don’t <fill-in-the-blank>.”

“I’d help people more if I got more help from others.”

“When I haven’t eaten, I get grumpy with everyone around me.”

“I don’t ‘fight fair’ with my wife because she never does.”

Justifying and rationalizing our actions are two very human problems.

7 Statements Accountable People Make

When I choose to eliminate justification and rationalization from my life — when I truly become accountable — statements like these flow from me readily and easily:

  1. I did it.
  2. I was wrong.
  3. It’s my fault.
  4. I shouldn’t have said that.
  5. I shouldn’t have done that.
  6. I’m sorry.
  7. I will change today.

These statements don’t end with “but” or “however.” They’re clear, concise, and spoken by confident people who embrace Personal Accountability. People who have decided to no longer justify and rationalize.

Are you there yet? Which of our 7 statements above do you need to use more often? Should you say it … today? ?

  1. The best boss I ever had was at a private golf club in Cleveland. He used to handle all of the angry member’s rants, tirades, or IQ’s with a simple QBQ – “What can I do to make it right?”

This would usually stop their anger, make them think, and usually diffuse the situation. After thinking about it, most of the time, they just wanted someone to listen to them.

  2. I must choose daily to be personally accountable and responsible with the myriad of choices that is going to come may way. There’s “no might come”, they are going to relentlessly come! These are 2 questions that I must keep asking myself day in and day out: What’s the right thing to do? and What’s my motive?

  3. I was just thinking after reading the post today… that I never have a comment to add. I just exhale a silent AMEN most of the time.
…BUT, then this email exchange happened and I thought I’d send it along. Proves your point!!
(you will know how to read this exchange backwards, 🙂 )

    Angel,
Sounds like a plan. Forgiveness all around! 
Thanks for owning the mistake and requesting they all ship together.

Randy will be able to take care of things while I’m gone.
Please CC him when you send the COAs.

    Hi Nancy,
I’m not sure what happened there….i have the request form filled out and saved, with slightly different quantities, but not really a record of sending it to AMRI or getting confirmation that it was shipped. I think this is my fault. Apologies for that and thanks for following up.

I asked AMRI to get to all three out at the same time and changed the ship to name to Randy’s. I will send COAs once I know the lot numbers.

    Enjoy your time off!

    Angel,
    That news is great.
So… Lys Lys Dex Isomer 2 is coming next week.

What is the status of the request for 500 mg of Lys(Lys)Dex Isomer 1? Requested 8/27
What is the status of the request for 2 grams of BOC-L-Lys(BOC)-L-Amphetamine? Requested 8/16

Are you able to send COAs for the lots of these materials that will be shipped?

I’ll be out-of-office from 9/25 to 10/14, so please contact Randy Dethlefs or Jason Ferayorni in by absence.

    Kind regards,
